How to Screen Record Facebook Story, Video, Live Stream, or Call?

Facebook Stories let users share short videos or photos that are usually visible for 24 hours. But a Story is not the only Facebook content you may want to keep for personal viewing. Sometimes you may also need to save a regular Facebook video, a live stream, or a video call when downloading is not available. In this guide, I will show you how to screen record Facebook Story, video, live stream, and video call on PC with sound. Is It Legal to Record Someone's Facebook Story?

Screen recording is useful, but it should be used carefully. It is generally fine to record your own Facebook Story, video, or live stream for backup. If the content belongs to someone else, use the recording only for personal reference, study, or other legitimate purposes, and do not repost it, sell it, remove the creator’s credit, or claim it as your own. For private Stories, private videos, and Facebook video calls, ask for permission first. Laws and platform rules may vary by country or region, so when in doubt, get the owner’s consent before recording.

HD Video Converter Factory Pro can record Facebook Stories, regular videos, live streams, and video calls with sound. It supports custom-area and full-screen recording, multiple output formats, adjustable quality, and no watermark. Simple for beginners.

How to Screen Record Facebook Story, Video, Live Stream, or Call on PC?

Downloading works for some public Facebook videos, but it does not always help with Facebook Stories, live streams, video calls, private videos, or videos without a usable link. In these cases, a screen recorder is the more practical option because it captures the video as it plays on your screen.

Here I recommend WonderFox HD Video Converter Factory Pro, an HD screen recorder for PC. It can capture Facebook Stories, regular videos, live streams, video calls, game clips, online classes, and other screen activities. You can record only part of the screen or the entire screen, capture system sound and/or microphone voice, and export the recording as MP4, MKV, AVI, or MOV. The recording quality, frame rate, and output folder can also be adjusted based on your needs.

Next, I will show you how to record a Facebook Story, video, live stream, or video call. Download and installDownload and install the recording software on your PC. Let’s get started.

How to Record Facebook Story, Video, Live Stream, or Call?

Step 1. Open the Facebook Video Recorder

Launch HD Video Converter Factory Pro after you install it. On the home interface, click Recorder to enter the Screen Recorder window. Then open Facebook in your browser and get the Story, video, live stream, or call ready.

Run the Recorder

Step 2. Select the Recording Area

There are four recording modes: custom, full screen, game recording, and audio-only. For a Facebook Story, regular video, live stream, or video call, click the first button and drag the cursor to select the video area you want to capture. Click OK to confirm the recording area.

If you want to record the whole screen, click the second button. This is useful when you want to keep the whole browser window or avoid missing a moving call window.

Choose Recording Region

Step 3. Modify Settings and Audio Source

Select MP4 to record an MP4 file. AVI, MOV, and MKV are also available. Set the recording quality and frame rate based on your needs. To record Facebook video sound, Story music, or a live stream, check Desktop. If you are recording a video call and want to keep your own voice, also check Microphone. If you do not want background noise, leave Microphone unchecked. Finally, click the bottom triangle button to specify an output path, or leave it as default.

Change Recording Settings

Step 4. Screen Record Facebook Content

Finally, press the red REC button. The recording will start after a five-second countdown, so play the Facebook Story/video or join the live stream/call in time. Once the recording begins, the software will minimize and float at the edge of your screen. When you finish, press the stop button or Ctrl + F1 to end the recording. The video file will be saved to the output folder you set.

Built-in Ways to Record Facebook Stories or Videos on Different Devices

Most modern devices have built-in screen recording features. They are convenient for quick one-off captures, especially on phones. However, they usually provide fewer output settings and editing options than a dedicated recorder.

On iPhone

  • Go to Settings > Control Center, then add Screen Recording if it is not already included.
  • Open Control Center, tap the screen recording icon, and then open Facebook to play the Story or video. Long-press the icon if you need to turn the microphone on or off.
  • Tap the red status bar or Dynamic Island at the top of the screen and tap Stop. The recording will be saved to Photos.

On Android

  • Swipe down to open Quick Settings and find Screen Record. The name and location may vary by phone brand.
  • Choose whether to record device audio, microphone audio, or both if your phone offers these options.
  • Start recording, open Facebook, and play the Story, video, or live stream. Swipe down again and tap the stop button when done.

On Windows 10/11

  • Open Facebook in your browser first, then press Win + G to open Xbox Game Bar.
  • Click the recording button or press Win + Alt + R to start/stop recording. Game Bar is best for recording the current app or browser window, not the whole desktop.
  • If Game Bar fails to capture the Facebook page or you need custom-area recording, use the method above with HD Video Converter Factory Pro.

On Mac

  • Press Shift + Command + 5 to open the Screenshot toolbar.
  • Choose to record the entire screen or a selected portion. Click Options if you need to select a microphone.
  • Click Record, play the Facebook content, and then click the stop button in the menu bar.

FAQs

Q1. Does Facebook notify you when you screen record a Story?

Currently, Facebook does not send a notification when someone screen records a Story. But app features can change, and recording private content without permission may still violate privacy or platform rules.

Q2. Does Facebook send screenshot notifications?

No. Facebook does not currently notify users when someone screenshots a Story, photo, profile, or regular video. This is different from some disappearing-message features in messaging apps, so do not confuse Stories with private disappearing messages.

Q3. Can I record a Facebook video, live stream, or video call in the same way?

Yes. The same steps work for regular Facebook videos, Facebook Live streams, and video calls. For live streams and calls, start the recorder before the important part begins. For calls, turn on Microphone if you want to record your own voice and make sure all participants agree to the recording.

Q4. Why is there no sound in my Facebook recording?

Make sure Desktop audio is checked in the recorder. Also check that the Facebook player, browser tab, and Windows volume mixer are not muted. If you need your own voice in a video call recording, check Microphone as well.

Q5. Can I stop my Facebook Story from being recorded?

You cannot fully prevent someone from recording content that appears on their screen. What you can do is limit who can view your Story, hide it from specific people, avoid posting sensitive information, and report unauthorized reposts or harassment when necessary.

Q6. Should I record or download a Facebook video?

If a public video has a downloadable link and you have the right to save it, downloading usually gives a cleaner copy. If the content is a Story, live stream, video call, private video, or a video that cannot be downloaded properly, screen recording is the more practical choice.

Final Words

That is how to record a Facebook Story, regular video, live stream, or video call. If you only need a short phone recording, the built-in recorder on iPhone or Android is enough. If you want a cleaner recording on Windows with custom area, stable audio capture, selectable format, and simple editing tools, HD Video Converter Factory Pro is a more flexible choice. After recording, you can also remove unwanted parts of a video, change the file format, increase the volume, or use the built-in downloader to download Facebook videos when a downloadable link is available.
