TikTok is a worldwide popular short-form video platform where people share vertical videos, tutorials, product clips, memes, vlogs, and more. But not every video exported from a camera, editor, screen recorder, or downloaded source can be uploaded smoothly. If the file uses an unsupported format, a wrong aspect ratio, an unusual resolution, a very large size, or an incompatible codec, TikTok may crop it badly, compress it heavily, or show an error such as “video resolution not supported”.
For a smooth TikTok upload, use the following safe video settings:
âśł Format: MP4 or MOV for regular uploads
âśł Video codec: H.264 is recommended
âśł Audio codec: AAC is recommended
âśł Resolution: 1080 x 1920 is ideal for vertical videos
âśł Aspect ratio: 9:16 is best; 1:1 can work but will not fill the full screen
âśł Frame rate: 30 fps is a safe choice; 60 fps usually works for high-motion footage
âśł Length: keep it within the limit shown in your TikTok account; shorter videos usually upload and process more reliably
âśł File size: keep it reasonably small to avoid slow upload or extra compression
* For TikTok advertising videos, TikTok’s official ad specs support MP4, MOV, MPEG, 3GP, and AVI, with 9:16 recommended for vertical ads, a file size up to 500 MB, and a video duration up to 10 minutes for some in-feed ad placements. However, common in-feed ad creatives are usually much shorter. For normal posts, MP4/MOV + H.264/AAC + 1080 x 1920 is still the safest combination.
WonderFox HD Video Converter Factory Pro is a powerful video converter for TikTok, helping you convert videos from nearly any format to MP4 and MOV without effort. It offers flexible configuration options to change the video resolution, change the aspect ratio, resize the canvas, trim the length, compress the file size, and adjust the codec for TikTok upload. Beyond that, it can rotate, flip, crop, merge, add subtitles, add effects, and process multiple videos in batch mode.
This is useful when your source video is a landscape YouTube clip, a square Instagram video, a 4K camera recording, a screen recording, or a file exported from an editor with odd dimensions. You can convert it to a TikTok-friendly MP4, make it vertical, and keep the main subject inside the frame before uploading.
HD Video Converter Factory Pro works on Windows computers. You can perform the conversion on your PC and upload videos to tiktok.com or transfer the converted files to your mobile device to upload in the TikTok app. Download and installDownload and install the software to start your work now!
Launch HD Video Converter Factory Pro on your desktop. Then, select Converter and click Add Files to import your video files. Drag-n-drop is also available for file import.
Click the format image on the right side of the window, head over to the Video tab, and select MP4 or MOV as the output format.
Here, I choose MP4 as the output video format for reference. And if your videos have already fit the TikTok specs, skip Step 3. Just press Run to finish the job.
(1). Click the Parameter settings button under the format image. Set Encoder to H264, set Resolution to “1080 x 1920”, and choose a frame rate such as 30 fps if your video has an unusual frame rate. Click OK to save the change.
(2). Click the “crop” icon below the source file to resize the video for TikTok. For a landscape video, crop the central subject into a 9:16 or 1:1 frame.
(3). Hit the “scissors” icon to remove unwanted parts and keep the video within the upload limit shown in your TikTok account.
(4). If the output file is too large or uploads slowly, click the “compression button” to reduce the size by selecting a suitable compression ratio.
All set. Now, click the bottom â–Ľ button to specify an output folder. Then, press Run to start the conversion immediately. Once done, you can find the converted file on your PC and upload it to tiktok.com or transfer it to your Android or iOS device.
Tips. WonderFox HD Video Converter Factory Pro also lets you convert YouTube videos to TikTok format. Make sure you have the right to use and repost the source video before uploading it to TikTok.
The best TikTok aspect ratio is 9:16, and the best standard size is 1080 x 1920 pixels. This vertical format fills the phone screen and avoids black bars in most cases. If your video is already vertical, you usually only need to convert the format or compress the file.
A 1:1 square video can still be posted, but it leaves empty space above and below or may be shown with bars depending on the player. A 16:9 landscape video is better for YouTube or desktop viewing, but on TikTok it often looks smaller unless you crop it into a vertical frame.
When resizing, do not place important text, faces, or product details too close to the bottom or right edge, because TikTok’s caption, buttons, and interface may cover them. Keep the key subject near the center of the vertical frame.
TikTok may reject a video or process it poorly when the file has a very unusual resolution, an odd aspect ratio, a codec TikTok does not like, or a file size that is too large for stable upload. For example, footage exported at 3840 x 2160, 1440 x 1080, 1080 x 1088, or other non-standard dimensions may need to be resized before upload.
To fix it, convert the video to MP4, use H.264 video and AAC audio, resize it to 1080 x 1920 for vertical TikTok posts, and compress the file if needed. If you do not want to crop the original picture, put the video on a 9:16 canvas with sidebars instead of stretching it. Stretching usually makes people and objects look distorted.
You can also use Online-Convert’s TikTok Video Converter to convert a small video to a TikTok-friendly format and size. The process is straightforward. However, online tools usually have file size limits, slower upload/download speed, fewer batch options, and privacy concerns for personal or business videos.
Step 1. Visit https://webservice.online-convert.com/convert-for-tiktok.
Step 2. Click “Choose File” or drag a video file to upload to the server.
Step 3. In "Optional Settings", choose the preset as "TikTok Portrait 1080x1920". You can keep the aspect ratio with sidebars, crop the picture, or resize it according to your need. Avoid stretching the video unless you are sure the result still looks natural.
Step 4. Press the green "Start" button to start the conversion process.
Step 5. Once done, download the converted file to your device. After that, you can upload the video to TikTok.

MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio is the safest choice for most TikTok uploads. MOV can also work, but MP4 is usually smaller and more compatible.
You can start with a 4K source if it looks sharp, but exporting a TikTok copy at 1080 x 1920 is often more practical. It uploads faster and avoids unnecessary file size.
You can crop the important part into a 9:16 vertical frame, or place the full horizontal video on a 9:16 canvas with bars. Cropping looks more native, while sidebars keep the whole picture.
Common causes include odd dimensions, unsupported codecs, very high resolution, wrong aspect ratio, or a damaged export. Convert the file to MP4, H.264/AAC, and 1080 x 1920 to solve most cases.
Resizing and re-encoding may cause some quality loss, but the result can still look good if you use a clean source, H.264, a reasonable bitrate, and the correct 1080 x 1920 size.
