Worldwide Analog Video Standards: NTSC PAL SECAM

There are three television standards in the world: NTSC, PAL and SECAM. Each has its own properties that are incompatible with each other. What Is the Difference in NTSC VS PAL VS SECAM?

In the current state of analog television, there are three television standards (also called norm) in the world: NTSC, PAL, and SECAM. At present, the TV norm in different countries is not the same, the difference of the broadcast video standard mainly depends on the different frame frequency, decomposition rate, signal bandwidth, carrier frequency, and so on.

NTSC (National Television Standards Committee) is the earliest existing television standard, developed in the United States and first used in 1954. Its parameters are as follows:

Line: 625

Frame rate: 30 FPS

Image resolution: SD 720*480 (standard screen), 30 FPS, HD 1920*1080 (widescreen), 30 FPS

The following countries support NTSC video:

Japan, Mexico, Panama, Peru, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, South Korea, Suriname, Taiwan, Trinidad and Tobago, the United States of America, Venezuela, Antilles, the Netherlands, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Bolivia, Burma, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Ecuador, Grenada, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica.

PAL (Phase Alternating Line) was developed by the UK and Germany in 1967. The PAL standard uses a wider channel bandwidth than the NTSC, resulting in better image quality. Its parameters are as follows:

Line: 525

Frame rate: 25 FPS

Image resolution: SD 720*576 (standard screen), 25 FPS. HD 1920*1080 (wide-screen), 25 FPS

The following countries support PAL:

Algeria, Andorra, Angola, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belgium, Botswana, Brazil, Brunei, Cameroon, China, Denmark, Ethiopia, Fiji, Finland, Germany, Ghana, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, Lesotho, Liberia, Luxembourg, Malawi, and Malaysia, the Maldives, Malta, Mozambique, Namibia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Somalia, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Swaziland, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Uruguay, Yemen, Yugoslavia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

SECAM (Sequential Couleurmmoire), developed in France in 1967, uses the same bandwidth and resolution (720x576) as PAL, but transmits color information Sequential. Note that only a few products support SECAM.

Bulgaria, Afghanistan, Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Central African Republic, Chad, Congo, Czechoslovakia, Djibouti, Egypt, France, French Guiana, Gabon, Greece, Guadalupe, Guinea, Cyprus, Haiti, Hungary, Iran, Iraq, ivory coast, Lebanon, Libya, Madagascar, Mali, Martinique, Mauritius, Mauritania, Monaco, Morocco, Niger, North Korea, Poland, Russia, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Syria, Togo, Tunisia, Vietnam, Western Samoa, Zaire

Step 1: Load Videos into NTSC PAL SECAM Converter

Click on Converter icon to enter a new window, and then click on Add Files button or directly drag and drop your file into the NTSC PAL Converter. Also, you can click on the Add Video Folder to load a whole folder of videos, saving your much time.

How to Use NTSC to PAL Converter

Step 2: Set Parameters for Getting NTSC PAL SECAM Videos

After loading videos, click the Output Format area on the right side of the interface to select a desired output format or device. Go back to the main screen and click Parameter Settings. Set new parameters in a new window.

Option 1: Convert Video to PAL Video

For getting SD PAL videos, customize video resolution as 720*576. Next, customize Frame Rate to 25FPS.

For getting HD PAL videos, set the video resolution as 1920*1080. The frame rate is also set to 25FPS.

Click Norm to PAL mode. Click on OK to save your settings.

Option 2: Convert Video to NTSC Video

For getting SD NTSC videos, set video resolution as 720*480. Next, change Frame Rate to 30FPS.

For getting HD NTSC videos, adjust the resolution as 1920*1080. The frame rate is also set to 30FPS.

Click Norm to NTSC mode. Click on OK to save your settings.

Option 3: Convert Video to SECAM Video

As said before, SECAM uses the same bandwidth and resolution (720x576) as PAL, so you can do that as option 1.

Step 3: Start to Convert to PAL NTSC SECAM Video

After all settings are OK, click the inverted triangle button in the Output folder box to set a file path. Finally, click the blue RUN button to complete the conversion.
